"A truly masterful performance, and equally masterful display of creative artistry." L. Outlaw, Vanderbilt University
A Southern Songbird's Tribute To The Legacy of Jazz.
Jazz Rhapsody.... is honor and heritage...life, love and legacy... painted in the brilliant colors of jazz.
Connye Florance brings to life the legacy of America's original sound with this living mosaic of classic and original jazz, spoken word and intimately staged theatre.
After a successful premier in Nashville in 2006, gaining superb audience response at all performance stops along the initial leg of our journey, including: Cumberland University, Hiawassee College, Wisconsin Lutheran College, Martin Methodist College and Indiana Wesleyan University, events forced us into hiatus in 2008.
Now, we're back and working again to "get this show on the road", sharing and honoring the musical legacy of jazz: Duke Ellington, Billy Strayhorn, Billie Holiday, Alberta Hunter, Langston Hughes and others whose artistry helped shape our cultural landscape with the next generation. Jazz Rhapsody... honors the crown jewel of American cultural heritage ~ JAZZ ~ with songs made popular by some of America's foremost jazz icons, including Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughn. An award-winning ensemble of musicians completes this 90-minute empowering and inspiring journey through jazz.
