BIOGRAPHY

With accolades and career credits that include:  "Jazz Vocalist of the Year "; Nashville Grammy (NAMMY) Nomination for Album of The Year, (Turn My Heart); Southern Artistry's “Esteemed Southern Artist” endorsement ; and Nashville Jazz Workshop’s 2013 Heritage Award,  Connye Florance is known for bringing transformative , captivating musical experiences to her audiences. 

 

She has toured with Columbia Artists and American Negro Playwright Theater on and off Broadway; performed alongside a variety of notable artists, including Randy Brecker,  Kirk Whalum,  Joe Davidian, Steinway Artist Beegie Adair, and Tony Award winner Jennifer Holiday. She enjoys her role as a featured favorite with  Nashville Jazz Orchestra and Modern Jazz Tuba Project , performs with some of the best musicians anywhere, and has pockets of faithful fans across the  U.S.  

Wielding a captivating voice that music legend Leon Russell describes as“velvet and wine”; and still others have compared to “French silk pie”,  Connye Florance is a world class jazz vocal stylist with a reputation for excellence and  finesse.  “Enraptured” , “Mesmerizing” , “Amazing” ... are words fans and audiences  regularly use to describe taking a musical journey with Connye — whether backed by a full ensemble or  with  solo piano accompaniment by  arranger / pianist, Kevin Madill.

As musical theater artist, headlining/touring jazz vocalist, workshop facilitator and vocal performance instructor, Connye has engaged her passions for jazz, theater, education,  and the stage to inspire and sharpen the skills  of many vocalists, and enrich the lives of audience members  all over the country.

Kevin Madill, Pianist / Arranger

 

Originally from Indiana, Kevin attended Ball State University on a trombone scholarship. After moving to Nashville in 1981, he returned to his original instrument, the piano, and quickly became a busy studio musician, producer, arranger and music director.  Kevin's television and film credits, including the 1991

Cyndi Lauper film, “Off and Running”, and the soon to be released indy film, “Chipping Away”. over 3000 recordings and 2000 live shows for artists like Tony Bennett, Leon Russell, Smokey Robinson, Bruce Hornsby, Bernadette Peters, The Jordanaires and countless others. He has been Music Director for Connye Florance for the past 25 years.
